While we're on the subject of irises, which are having a banner year with all of this rain, I wanted to show you an unusual iris from my front perennial bed. I'm not crazy about black flowers like this because they look rather startling so I know I didn't buy them. My husband swears he never bought them, so where in the world did they come from? Yet every spring, they pop back up in all their glory. Considering the fact that the perennial bed is planted in pinks, purples, whites and blues, I almost think I can hear them chuckling about how out of place they look.
