Those who follow my newspaper columns will recall that I grew pole beans on an arbor last year. It was a roaring success because I was able to stand underneath it for easier harvesting.
I'm using the arbor again this year and readers have been asking how the beans are doing so far. They got off to a shaky start due to getting frosted earlier this spring but are now in a race to get to the top of the arbor. Most of the vines are about 4 feet tall and once they've achieved their full height, they'll really start to leaf out.
The variety I'm growing is called 'Italian Pole Bean' and I got the seeds from Seeds of Change.
