Here is a link to my column from Sunday's edition of The Spokesman-Review: Plotting with friends can help garden grow.
The column is about one of Spokane's newest community gardens, The Commons, on the South Hill.
Every time I see a community garden, it puts a smile on my face because I see folks working together on their garden plots while sharing gardening knowledge. There has been a huge surge of interest in vegetable gardening over the past few years, a skill that has skipped a generation. Community gardens can be organized by anyone, not just by the City or County. I've seen them established on vacant lots - with the permission of the lot owner, of course. They really dress up a neighborhood and bring neighbors closer together.
