Here are photos of some of the plants that were recommended to me by gardeners Sherrie Guiles and Phyllis Hathaway. They look stunning in the landscape, but what's really fun is that they can all be used in indoor floral arrangements or for holiday decorations. This is what my column in today's edition of The Spokesman-Review (Longtime gardeners offer holiday recommendations) was about.
From top to bottom, the plants are:
1. Symphoricarpos (Coralberry)
2. Cedrus atlantica 'glauca' (Blue Atlas Cedar)
3. Malus 'Red Jade' (Crabapple 'Red Jade')
4. Ilex verticillata (Winterberry)
5. Rosa glauca - I didn't have the opportunity to take a photo of this rose but here is a link you can click on to view a photo of it on Northland Rosarium's web site. Northland Rosarium is located on the southwest side of Spokane and is a great place to purchase own-root roses. This means they are not grafted so they are much hardier for this region. They are closed for the season but you can always contact them to request a catalog, which they will be mailing out later this fall.
