Here are photos of the other plants recommended by Sherrie Guiles and Phyllis Hathaway, which coincide with today's column in The Spokesman-Review (Longtime gardeners offer holiday recommendations).
All but the last photo were taken in Sherrie Guiles' garden. From the top down, the plants are:
1. Hypericum (St. John's Wort)
2. Buxus (Boxwood) - don't you just love the rooster sculpture peeking up over it?
3. Hydrangea paniculata (PeeGee Hydrangea)
4. Cupressus arizonica 'Blue Ice' (Arizona Cypress 'Blue Ice') - it is the grey foliage underneath the other plants in this grouping. One of the coolest foliage plants I've ever seen! It looks fabulous in evergreen wreaths because it provides such a large contrast with the foliage of other conifers.
5. Viburnum trilobum (American Cranberry bush) - this shrub looks terrific year-round: lacy, white flowers in the spring, coral-colored berries in the summer which turn to bright red in the fall, and red leaves during the fall as well.
