Hi, everyone. Sorry for the lack of recent postings but I've been on vacation. My husband Bill and I just returned from a week in Yellowstone National Park and had a wonderful time.
As you know, the park is famous for being the home to all sorts of critters like wolves, bears, moose, buffalo, elk, bighorn sheep and so on.
The animals we saw the most frequently in some of the more populated areas of the park were elk. I can only imagine how much damage they can do to the landscapes around the various park buildings.
As you can see by the photos, this is how they protect their flowering annuals in the beds around the Mammoth Hot Springs area of the park. They used weld-wire to completely cover the plantings.
I wanted to show you this so you could see that we Inland Northwest gardeners could have things much worse! And if you are having a particularly rough time keeping the deer out of your flower beds, here is a labor-intensive - but apparently successful - method to try.
