
Here in the Inland Northwest, we've had several frosty nights and it is now particularly cold with the "s" word (yes, snow!) in the forecast.
When I headed out to our shop to check on the bulbs I'm forcing, something bright caught my eye. It is my carpet rose, 'The Fairy,' and it is still blooming and growing. Now that is one tough rose!
I bought it from Northland Rosarium quite a few years ago and it is a very reliable bloomer. The best thing about their roses is that they aren't grafted so they are extremely hardy for our winters.
Even though this photo isn't particularly flattering for the rose, it was taken on Nov. 9 - not exactly a time of year when you're expect a rose to be thriving! You can see that the bush is still vibrant in spite of our chilly temperatures.
