Garden news

Here are some interesting tidbits that I wanted to share with you:

1. The Plant Farm is going to hold two free seed-starting classes next Saturday, Feb. 26. They are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Because space is limited, be sure to call to pre-register (509-926-9397). The Plant Farm is located in Spokane Valley at 14208 E. 4th Ave. There's an ad for the classes in today's newspaper on page C3. If you bring in the ad when you go to one of the classes, they'll give you a free packet of seeds. Such a deal.

2. Renee's Garden Seeds has information on how to keep gophers, voles and moles out of your raised beds on their blog. I've been giving presentations on growing veggies in raised beds for years and have been suggesting this all along, but this blog posting has nice step-by-step instructions and photos.

3. If you'd like to know which plants are the 2011 All-America Selections, go to the AAS web site.

4. Horticulture magazine is sponsoring several free online garden workshops over the new couple of months. I've participated in them in the past and they are very informative and useful. Go to this link to sign up.

5. Last but not least, Gardener's Supply has a free kitchen garden planner that is worth checking out.

Have a great weekend!
