Spring is coming - honest

With all of the rainy, gloomy and chilly days we've been experiencing lately, it's awfully hard to believe that it really is - officially, at least - spring.

I took a little walk around our garden this afternoon and saw an encouraging sight: a whole lot of daffodils getting ready to bloom. Hooray!

We have several large clumps of them in a couple of our perennial beds. Some have apricot-colored trumpets and others are the more traditional yellow color. We also have a lot of 'Ice Follies' narcissus which have got to be one of the toughest bulbs around.

The great thing about daffodils and narcissus is that deer and gophers will leave them alone because they are poisonous. So if you have deer problems, these bulbs are a perfect solution. They multiply every year and the flower size will never get smaller the way tulip blossoms do.

I hope the photo above gives you hope that spring flowers will soon be gracing our gardens. Consider taking a walk around your garden, too - maybe you'll see some signs of spring as well.
