You have to admit it's really too much. For those of you who live outside the Spokane area, I'm talking about all of the snow we got today. I mean, gee whiz - it's April 18th for crying out loud. But it's true: Mother Nature pulled a fast one on us today and she's probably laughing herself silly right about now.
I don't know about you, but for some reason, I'm just dying for some nice weather to get here. I want to play in the dirt, not in the snow or mud. I want to see leaves on the trees. Is that too much to ask?
OK, I'll stop whining now although I'm sure I have a lot of company today. The photo above is of part of my veggie garden. There actually is an onion patch underneath the floating row cover. Who's ever had to protect their onions from the cold?!
And while we're on the subject, here's a quick update on how the veggie garden is coming along: I've planted the seeds for parsnips, carrots, beets, Swiss chard, cabbage and collards so far. The garlic has been up for a month or more, with the sprouts now being about 4" tall.
Yesterday, I transplanted my tomato, pepper and eggplant seedlings into larger pots. We had a nice lettuce patch going in the garden - also under a floating row cover - but discovered last week that a bunch of field mice got into the bed and ate every last plant. Argh! Some days it's mighty hard to be a farmer...
