May 6 column

Happy Bloomsday, everyone! What a beautiful day we have for the race and for all sorts of gardening activities.

Here is a link to my column in today's edition of The Spokesman-Review: Savvy gardeners holding steady on tomato plants. As you can guess, it's about growing tomatoes. I'm hoping to be able to plant mine soon and am frustrated that we're still getting down into the 30s at night.

Fortunately, the long-range forecast is looking pretty good so we won't have to wait too much longer. Just remember to keep an eye on the weather and provide protection for your warm-season crops as needed.

By the way, last year I posted information about how I get my tomatoes started early. Click here to go to that posting to learn more.
