Amaryllis in bloom

Remember how I posted an item during the holiday season about what a great gift an Amaryllis bulb would make? Well, my husband took the hint and gave me two of them -- one white and one red.

It's amazing how quickly they have grown. Each one started out as a large bulb in a pot on Christmas day, and now the stems are about 18" tall. Wow. They just started blooming a couple of days ago. I couldn't resist showing you the gorgeous blossoms. They should stay in bloom for a few weeks.

What I like about growing bulbs in pots is that it gives fanatical gardeners like myself the opportunity to see something growing in the middle of winter. Amaryllis are super-easy to grow so consider putting that item on your Christmas list for this year!
