Remember how I wrote a column about growing zinnias and how the Zahara line is my new favorite? Well, the plants I started from seed have just started blooming. The cultivar above is 'Double Fire' -- what a great burnt-orange color! The plants have a mounding growth habit and are about 10" tall.
I'm also growing some plants from the Profusion line. This one is 'Double Cherry' and the color is just stunning. My favorite companion plant these zinnias Salvia 'Victoria Blue.' Don't they look great together?
No matter which type of zinnia you plant, remember that they love the sun and well-drained soil. The flowers last a long time so they require minimal deadheading, but stay on top of it so each plant's bloom period lasts longer.
