June 15 column

Here is a link to my column in today's edition of The Spokesman-Review: Garden tour puts spotlight on Spokane Valley. It is a preview of next Saturday's "Spokane in Bloom" garden tour.
One of Karol Startzel's delightful metal sculptures.

Sponsored by the Inland Empire Gardeners, this year's tour features eight outstanding gardens in Spokane Valley. The tour runs on Saturday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

I had the pleasure of interviewing garden owner Karol Startzel and touring her beautiful garden. The photos on this post were taken there, just to give you a hint of what you'll see there.

Garden locations:
12510 E. 21st Ave.
13710 E. 42nd Ave.
520 N. Glenn Rd.
8218 E. Maringo Dr.
17912 E. Mission Ave.
3510 N. Malvern Rd. (Otis Orchards)
Because the Startzel's garden is in a gated community, you can catch a minibus to their garden at Horizon Middle School, 3915 S. Pines Rd., every half hour until 4 p.m. No tickets will be sold at this stop on the tour.

Tickets can be purchased for $12 at most gardens the day of the tour or ahead of time at these Spokane nurseries:
