This amazing tree is well worth your consideration. It is hardy down to USDA zone 4 (Spokane is zone 5-6) and reaches a mature height of 20 to 30 feet. It spreads between 15 and 25 feet wide.
As you can see, the bark is absolutely stunning with its bronze/cinnamon coloring and exfoliating (peeling) nature.
Paperbark Maple is easy to grow and does well in full sun to part shade. As with most plants, it prefers well-draining soil.
The leaves turn red in autumn, and the contrast of the bark against the snow in winter makes this a valuable plant year-round. It has few pest or disease problems.
