If you were wondering what was on the dinner menu at the Mulvihill household last night, I'm tickled to announce that we had our first pole beans of the season. And they were delicious!
Many of you who read my garden columns will recall that I've started growing pole beans up and over an arbor, which makes harvesting them really easy. We're growing the 'Italian pole bean' variety from Seeds of Change. The bean vines are about 6 to 7 feet tall already and if they're anything like last year's, we'll be harvesting them every couple of days throughout the remainder of the growing season. Last year, we harvested about 90 pounds of beans. About 60 pounds of them went to the Second Harvest Food Bank and then we either ate or froze the remainder to enjoy during the winter.
If you want to see a close-up of the pole bean arbor, go to my "Veggie update - beans" post on June 23.
